GORILLA SAFARIS- UGANDA & RWANDA
Bwindi impenetrable and Mgahinga national parks harbor half of the worlds’ surviving population of mountain gorilla. In the heart of thick rain forest undergrowth lie families of habituated mountain gorillas. The Uganda wildlife authority provides a period of only an hours encounter with these gigantic and beautiful apes to keep them stress free. Specific health inoculations are observed for each tracker and those with contagious diseases like colds and diarrhea are exempted from tracking the gorillas. It will take you in between 1-6 hours to locate the gorillas depending on their location the previous day. It is therefore important to have reasonable fitness when attempting to track the gorillas in Bwindi. Non flash cameras are recommended so as not to scare the gorillas. A packed lunch, lots of drinking water, energy bites like chocolate, sturdy shoes, rain gear and a light poncho are also a necessity whilst on this trek. According to the Uganda wildlife authority chances of encountering the mountain gorilla in Bwindi are 98%. The gorilla group in Mgahinga however though available at some periods of the year occasionally migrates to Rwanda. Any encounter with the mountain gorilla is always memorable and at the end of it always worth the trek, with successful trackers receiving certificates at the end of the expedition.
